Understanding and Upholding the Rights of Our Members
Members deserve a union that:
Actively and consistently addresses members’ concerns, feedback, and fulfills their needs through
- Clear office hours
- Regular in-person meetings and quarterly full member forums
- Updates through the website
- Following and upholding the bylaws
- Allowing members access to information as stated in the bylaws
Ensures advocacy for members and non-members alike by
- Encouraging representatives to speak at school board meetings
- Having active membership engagement at forums and meetings
- Representing all ACPS employees: teachers, paraprofessionals, transportation, food services, etc
- Developing relationships with community supporters
Gives members opportunities to get involved and foster the representation they deserve by
- Aiming for all buildings and worksites in ACPS to have an active voice
- Allowing open opportunities for members to be involved in the collective bargaining process, state and national conventions, and local committees
- Giving access to state and national-level resources for further representation
- Opening multiple avenues to actively solicit feedback from rank-and-file members
- Holding meetings at times when all members can attend
Fights for the best collective bargaining agreements possible based on the needs and wants of members with
- Providing clear and consistent communication about the status of collective bargaining
- Demanding that the School Board revise its resolution draft to get rid of confidentiality
- Involving members into the collective bargaining negotiation team
- Making restorative steps a priority during collective bargaining negotiations
- Setting the precedent that educators are respected through the collective bargaining agreement
