RUN's Core Mission & Goals

The Responsive Union Now (RUN) caucus was founded in 2023 with one mission: to increase the responsiveness of our union, the Education Association of Alexandria (EAA) through various means and mediums. As such, ever since our creation, RUN has worked tirelessly to advocate for ACPS staff members, and we have accomplished a number of wins due to our advocacy work! However, in order to continue our vital work, we need a framework from which to operate from. Listed below are the goal's the RUN caucus has discussed and ratified and will be the scaffolding from which RUN makes all its decisions from. Please take some time to read through our goals below, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

  • Goal 1: Increase EAA accountability

    • All communications shall come from a single official EAA email address.

    • Implement a quarterly newsletter from EAA leadership.

    • Schedule quarterly all member/ town hall meetings for 24-25 SY.

    • Adopt the NEA Code of Conduct for meetings. 

    • Adopt election reform by ‘25 Building Representative elections, to include: consistent dates for each election cycle (NEA/ VEA reps, building reps, executive board, etc.), releasing ballot petitions to members; move to a secure electronic voting system, allow candidates access to communicate with members, and making vote tallies available to members.

  • Goal 2: Increase EAA & RUN participation 

    • Update building based union rosters & review all rosters quarterly for accuracy. 

    • Increase EAA membership by 10% by the end of the 24-25 SY.

    • Schedule at least one member of the EAA Executive Board to speak at each school board meeting.

    • Increase attendance at EAA Board of Directors meetings by the end of the 24-25 SY. 

    • Increase RUN membership by 100% by the end of the 24-25 SY.

  • Goal 3: Advocate for a transparent collective bargaining process

    • Ensure all EAA collective bargaining committee meetings are open to all members during the 24-25 SY.

    • Ensure all schools/stakeholder groups are represented in collective bargaining conversations during the 24-25 SY.

    • Implement bi-weekly email updates to all members on the progress of collective bargaining during the 24-25 SY.

Ultimately, RUN's core values center on transparency, increasing membership participation/voice, and ensuring we bring respect back to our profession. While it is impossible to list all the ways we will uphold those values, we believe this humble list of goals displays our commitment to these values. We look forward to working with all ACPS employees to make our union the strongest in the Commonwealth.
