The Education Association of Alexandria (EAA) is the Alexandria City local chapter of the Virginia Education Association (VEA), which is the state chapter of the National Education Association (NEA).

But you may be asking, "Why join?"
By joining the EAA you will become part of a network of more than 40,000 members across the state. The VEA is Virginia’s premier education organization and the commonwealth’s strongest advocate for quality public education for all children. Membership guarantees you a range of benefits:

Professional development: VEA offers numerous training modules on a multitude of different subjects like classroom management, conflict resolution, time management, and more!

Political Advocacy: Much of education policy and funding is dictated by the General Assembly in Richmond. The VEA serves as a strong advocate and oversight entity for public education and its employees. VEA is our voice at the table when Richmond makes important decisions. Also, the VEA does public outreach to promote their and our priorities.

Member rights/legal protection: Members of the EAA and by extension the VEA are automatically covered by a $1 million liability policy when performing their duties. Furthermore, members will get access to special deals and discounts on other legal services, if needed. VEA also provides a network of trained professionals, called UniServ directors. UniServ directors are ready to assist you if you have issues surrounding your employment.

Member communications: VEA offers a platform where members are informed and can keep in touch with each other through its website and various social media platforms. In addition, the VEA offers many written communication and in-person meetings to keep Association members up-to-date on the current goings on. All members also receive the Virginia Journal of Education six times a year.

Retirement protection: The VEA not only takes care of you while you work, but after you retire as well. VEA works tirelessly to improve the benefits offered to retired education staff members and to protect the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) from being used to balance the state budget.
