Accomplishments

On Thursday, March 21 RUN's advocacy helped make history when the ACPS School Board passed their collective bargaining resolution, enshrining the right to collective bargaining for ACPS employees. Due to RUN's work as a caucus of the Education Association of Alexandria (EAA), we were able to get one of the best collective bargaining resolutions passed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, highlights of which include:

  • Collective bargaining rights for licensed ACPS staff and Educational Support Personnel (ESPs), with a path for Administrative Employees to gain collective bargaining within 3 years.

  • An initial collective bargaining agreement (CBA) consisting of 6 negotiated topics, with no limitation on negotiation topics for all subsequent CBAs.

  • Allowing ACPS employees to elect their exclusive bargaining agent with  a simple majority election.

  • Closing loopholes which enabled potential blocking of negotiations and/or ignoring of a negotiated CBA.

Additionally, through our advocacy we were able to help secure an average 7% raise for ACPS employees during the 2024-25 School year!  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

We also want to celebrate all of the ACPS staff members who showed up to school board meetings and/or came out to have their voices heard. Your presence and pressure is a major reason why we can celebrate these additions to ACPS' budget, and we will need it again when we start to lobby City Council to approve the aggressive package the ACPS School Board put together.

Once more, thank you all! Let's celebrate!
